A stack of towels at the edge of a pool — and you can sit on it.

Towel Stool No. 15 looks soft, and it is. It's just that each "towel" is technical mesh stretched over a frame, with silicone pressed through the holes until it comes out the other side. Each one is cut out of its frame, folded like laundry, and stacked, with milled plywood panels slid between the layers. The whole thing is screwed together and every open edge is sewn shut by hand.

It is a working stool. It just takes a second to believe it.

Laura Dominici builds what she calls a slow world: deliberately time-consuming techniques, set against a life run on efficiency. Water runs underneath all of it — pools, towels, locker keys, the furniture of leisure. Lazy Swim is her collaboration with Basil Schu, a Viennese artist whose work explores how societies read and shape landscape. Their work has been shown at Alcova Milano, the Venice Design Biennial and COLLECTIBLE New York.
